The competition is divided into two categories — High School and College. Applicants must fill out an application form and submit an essay.
The high school category is for students in grades 9 – 11. Their essay topic is “What evidence of your Polish-American heritage do you find in the greater Toledo area?”
The college category is for Grade 12 and undergraduate students and the topic of their essay is “Discuss and explain the contributions of a Polish author to the field of literature.”
Those interested in applying have until May 31, 2023 to complete a Scholarship Application Form and submit it along with their essay. Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:
A high school or college student enrolled on a full time basis;
Preferential consideration will be given to children or grandchildren of PACT members in good standing;
Preferential consideration will be given to students who demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities or service to the community;
Preferential consideration will be given to students with outstanding academic credentials based on grades received;
If a public high school student is awarded a scholarship, funds will be placed in escrow until the student attends college.
Former scholarship winners are not eligible to receive another scholarship in the same category. For instance, a high school winner cannot receive another scholarship competing in the high school category. However, the student could re-apply and could win while attending college.
Judges from PACT and Toledo Poznan Alliance will review the essays and vote on which students deserve the scholarships. The winners will have a check sent to the college they attend for tuition, general fees, books and living expenses.”
Money for the scholarships is raised through PACT’s programming.
